Preservation

On the National Register of Historic Places (http://www.kshs.org/p/national-and-state-registers/14635 ), the Hotel is eligible for Ks Heritage Trust Funds of up to $90,000 at an 80/20 match (http://www.kshs.org/p/heritage-trust-fund/14617), and for federal (20%)  and state (25%) rehab tax credits for qualified projects (http://www.kshs.org/p/tax-credit-basics/14673 ).  Other funding sources for preservation can be found at http://www.kshs.org/p/find-funding/15716 on the Kansas Historical Society’s website. 

The Cimarron Hotel is part of an interactive online database, the Kansas Historic Resources Inventory (KHRI).  The nomination form and photographs of the Hotel and other eligible or listed properties can be found by searching Cimarron under KHRI.  The service is free to the public.  A copy of the Gray County Commercial Buildings Survey, completed in 2011, explored the commercial properties in each of the counties five communities:  Cimarron, Copeland, Ensign, Ingalls, and Montezuma.  It can be found at http://www.kshs.org/resource/survey/graycountyreport.pdf  

A Preservation Plan has been developed by the owner.  It is 75% implemented and is available upon request.  Previous preservation projects have upgraded all plumbing and electrical components throughout the building, repaired and stabilized the foundation, replaced the flat roof, replaced the boiler in 2020, developed and completed an annual maintenance plan.
